  1. Maintaining Momentum

1.Maintaining Momentum

I am currently in the process of writing a book. Its entitled “Fighting to Finish: My 15 Year bout with Education”. I am about 75 pages in and like any new author, I love it, then I want to throw it in the trash, only to pick it back up and love it again. Writing a book may be one of the most fulfilling yet challenging endeavors I have taken on. However, I’m always up for a good challenge. So here I go, diving in to rewrites, revisions, and what I call rethinks. This book will take you on a journey with me and my educational path. You will read all about my failures, triumphs, and more all on a fifteen year pursuit of my degree. That’s right, just in case you missed it, I have been to five undergraduate institutions spanning fifteen years. Along the way I have messed up, mustered up energy and grit to get back up on my feet, moved to my dream city, and attend my dream school, New York University.

Though I ended there, I look back now on the moments where I could have really given up and not finished what I started. Now, I realize that I finished because I kept my momentum to finish. I stayed in heavy pursuit, not giving myself a day off, but working hard and being consistent to achieve every goal I had. Now that I have been out of school for a while, I find that I must maintain my momentum for the next set of goals and I have to do it intentionally. There’s not always someone to pat me on my back and tell me I’m doing a good job. Though the Pisces in me loves affirmations, I can’t stop, even if I don’t hear what I want to hear or receive the praise I think I should receive from others. It just doesn’t work that way and I am grateful for that. Had it not been for the hard times and those silent moments, I would have never known how to get myself out of a funk and keep moving forward.

This week, examine some areas of your life that need a recharge. Put some momentum and pep back in your step in achieving your goals. Eliminate the distractions and keep telling yourself, “We must finish we start.” I’m here today to give you your first push, the rest is up to you! Maintain your Momentum and not only finish, but finish well!!!

Until next time. Blessings,
